Expert Tips on Carpet Cleaning

When it comes to household carpet cleaning you can learn a
thing or two from those guys who do it for a living -
professional cleaning companies and janitors. Of course
they deal with bigger areas that receive much more intense
use, and it is their full time job, but they have skills
and knowledge that can be easily transferred to the home
setting.
Carpeting public areas needs a but of planning so that
cleaning can be kept to a minimum. In many public spaces
in offices, schools and factories, the hallways will have a
rug that can be removed. The reason for this is clear -
lots of dirt builds up on the rug. This rug is usually of
a more durable material than the carpet itself and is
removable to allow it to be deep-cleaned and dried. It is
also likely to be less expensive than the carpet to
replace. If you take a look at a carpet that has been put
to heavy use that has not had the benefit of a rug - you
will see how filthy it is!
Whilst your home may not have the high traffic of a school
or office, with hundreds of dirty shoes every hour at peak
times, the principle is still the same - kids with
their shoes trail in dirt and so on. Such a rug, in
combination with a house rule that says "no outdoor shoes
to be worn inside" will make the carpet much easier to
clean.
There is no way to stop dust and other particles falling
onto the carpet, so some vacuuming will be needed. In the
world of work daily vacuuming is needed in most areas - at
home many areas only need to be done once or twice a week.
But again we can learn from the professionals - they will
classify the carpeted areas into high and low traffic
areas. If you think about it, most people who wander
around your house will tread on the same part of the carpet
- they walk in a straight line down the middle of the
hallway, for example. So the middle is a high traffic area
that might need doing every day or two. On the high
traffic areas you might want to pass the machine back and
forth about five or six times, whereas the low traffic
areas will only need three passes every few days.
Experts in cleaning know the value of catching little
spills as soon as possible. If you deal with a spillage
immediately there is less chance that the carpet will show
the damage. The trick here is to have some general spot
cleaner to hand. It is very important that you read the
instructions and understand how to use it BEFORE you have
the panic of a spill to deal with - read the instructions
when you buy the product. Again this is a tip from the
professionals who are aware that these products contain
chemicals that you should not inhale - knowing how to use
them prevents you using too much.
At times it will be necessary to give your carpet a deeper
clean. For this, machines that shampoo carpets can be
bought or hired and these function well. Following the
guidelines of the manufacturer will bring you better
results - putting more cleaning fluid in the machine in the
belief that it will work better will not help. By taking
account on some of the tips above you will make your
carpets last longer and you home will look great.
